Greetings once again football fans! As we expand our horizons here at Gridiron Downunder and branch out into other areas of internet journalism (stay tuned for some hard hitting editorials in the coming months), we realise that it’s neither fair, nor fully informative, for GV’s Division 1 to hog all of the online blogging limelight.

With that in mind, we have managed to recruit Kane Latham, from the fledging Pakenham Silverbacks, as our official Gridiron Victoria Division 2 correspondent. Kane’s role will be to keep us abreast (great word) of all the happenings on the second division landscape. He describes himself as just an average Tight End from the Silverbacks, with a love for the game, and his club. He’s a Gronk wannabe, but in a scathing self-appraisal states that he has about as much skill as Ryan Gosling at Cornerback in Remember the Titans.

Kane has kindly offered up his predictions for this weekend’s slate of Division 2 games. Do you agree? Or has he lost his mind? Give us your thoughts in the comments section.

Sunday, June 28 – Tom Flood Sports Centre, Bendigo

Ballarat Falcons (6th Place, 0-6) vs Monash Barbarians (4th Place, 3-3)

Last time: Barbarians 22, Falcons 0

Last time they met, the Barbarians notched up their second win of the season and were on a roll. This time, I don’t expect things to be much different. Hit with injuries to key players, and struggling, the Falcons now come up against the strength of a formidable Barbarians side. I expect number 87 from the Barbarians to be on the receiving end of a lot of passes, and the numbers to pile up on the board. If the Falcons plan on slowing him down, they will need Trek Rimene back at Safety. The Falcons can take some positives out of last game, knowing their offense can put a score on the board, and this little black duck hopes to see them do it again.

Kane’s prediction: Barbarians 28, Falcons 6

Bendigo Dragons (1st Place, 5-1) vs Pakenham Silverbacks (3rd Place, 4-2)

Last time: Dragons 22, Silverbacks 0

This will be the battle of the defenses, with both sides being led by them. That’s as far as I’m going with my prediction, as I’m just an average Tight End from Pakenham.

Kane’s prediction: Football is the real winner.

Each and every Thursday Kane will offer his musings on the upcoming weekend’s Division 2 battles, so don’t forget to check back weekly for more GV Division 2 news.

Week 9 in Gridiron Victoria’s Division 2

Jamie Stafford

Tina Fey-loving current starting QB (at least until Richie gives me the hook) of the Croydon Rangers in Gridiron Victoria, as well as the Head Coach of the Croydon Rangers women's team. I once got my hair washed by a total stranger in a Subiaco salon at 5am while playing for the 2004 Victorian team. That was a good day.
