Panthers.com reported today that they have signed Sydney born guard David Yankey to a future contract. According to Panthers.com the contracts are referred to as “future” contracts because even though the players have signed, they do not officially become members of the roster until the beginning of the new league year – March 9.

Yankey the former Minnesota Vikings and fifth-round draft pick has spent most of his NFL career on the practice squad. Players who are not on a teams 53 man roster are the only ones who are eligible for “future” contracts.

The Panthers are a real chance at the Superbowl title this season thanks to a fantastic season lead by Quarterback Cam Newton, but the O-Line could do with an upgrade which I am sure is why the Panthers have signed Yankey to ad competition to camp next season.

At Stanford David Yankey was a 2-time consensus All-American in 2012 and 2013 and played in 4 consecutive BCS Bowl games the Orange Bowl in 2010, Fiesta Bowl in 2011 and the Rose Bowl in 2012 and 2013.

We hope the move to the Panthers will kick start his career.
