The National Gridiron League has announced it will hold its first Australian combine on the 24th April 2016, at Cbus Super Stadium on the Gold Coast.

The NGL has said on a number of occasions they are looking for around 10 local players to be a part of each team and it would appear this is the best way to show what you have got.

There has been five of the eight planned teams announced by the NGL they are:

  • Brisbane Outlaws
  • Gold Coast Kings
  • Sydney Express
  • North Coast Heat
  • Logan Wolverines

The other planned teams are to be based in Canberra, Newcastle and Wollongong and the season is planned to start on the 11th of September between Canberra and Wollongong.

Participants must register to participate in the combine which will be run on the 24th of April. Registration cost is AU$59 per participant and payable upon registration which you can do here. Registrations close on April 15, 2016.

The NGL will be looking at the following on each player:

  • Height
  • Weight
  • 40 Yard Dash
  • 5-10-5 Shuttle
  • 3 Cone Drill
  • Verticle Jump
  • Football Specific Drills

Over the past few months there has been some announcements around players signed and coaches signed but at this rate they will need many more Australian players to fill out each team than the ten indicated. If we are going to see the NGL start on time there will be a rush of US players signed over the next few months.

The NGL is looking more and more real but we will have to wait and see.

  1. I’m really concerned about making it into the team, I think I’m too short for the combine, is 5’9 still considered to make the team?
