Dane Roy

As featured on Channel 9 news last night Dane Roy has committed to punt for the University of Houston Cougars. Roy made the announcement on his Facebook page earlier today.

Wow. What a whirlwind past 6 months! All starting from that kick on grand final day last year! I am excited to announce I have been offered a full scholarship from the University of Houston. I have received so much support from many people over the past few months, especially from Nathan Chapman & John A Smith who have spent countless hours teaching me to punt, speaking to coaches and getting my paperwork all in order. (And answering all my questions). You both have no idea how much this means to me. Also thanks to Dave at Conquest Fitness for preparing me both physically and mentally for what lies ahead…all those 6am starts are paying off, I have never worked so hard in my life before. And a massive thanks to my family and my amazing partner Chiara Gilligan! This girl is something special! I’ll be moving over in a few months time with Chiara joining me soon after. ‪#‎GoCoogs‬

Dane Roy was playing aussie rules football for Richmond Central AFC and won a longest kick competition at last years AFL Grand Final at the MCG with a massive 73 yard torpedo kick.

Roy then began working with Nathan Chapman & John A Smith of Pro Kick Australia to teach him the skill required for American Football. As a 27 year old Roy will be the old man of the Houston locker room added in with his Australian accent we are sure he will stand out.

The Houston Cougars had a fantastic 2016 under first year head coach Tom Herman finishing 13-1 with a Peach Bowl victory over the Florida State Seminoles 38–24. UH finished ranked 8th in the AP Top 25 Poll, so Roy will be joining a team ready to take the next step.
