When it comes to Division 2 in Gridiron Victoria, we could stop the season now and just let Bendigo and Pakenham fight out the championship. But where exactly is the fun in that? As annoying as he is, Chris Berman was right when he said “That’s why they play the games”. Just about anything can happen in any given game. It will take some kind of miracle however for the above scenario to not come to fruition.

HERE COMES WEEK 10!!!

DIVISION 2

Saturday August 20th – Ranger Field, Croydon – 10:30am

  • Northern Raiders (3rd Place, 3-2-3) vs Ballarat Falcons (4th Place, 3-3-1)
  • Last Time:     Week 3, 2016: Raiders 6, Falcons 6

The last time these two sides met it ended in the Raiders second tie of the season. The also lost some important players to injury. There will be no tie this time around, but it will be a very physical battle as each team tries to solidify their spot in the top 4. The Falcons won’t want to give the Raiders a 13 point head start like they did against the Gladiators, and if they do there will be no comeback. The Raiders win this one due to a better passing game.

Prediction:    Raiders 20, Falcons 12

Saturday August 20th – Maryvale Reserve, Morwell – 2:00pm

  • Gippsland Gladiators (6th Place, 1-6-1) vs Pakenham Silverbacks (1st Place, 8-0)
  • Last Time:     Week 3, 2016: Silverbacks 44, Gladiators 6

The Gladiators win this………who am I kidding? The Gladiators will be happy to keep the Silverbacks under 50 points in this one. Some teams are finding that pretty hard to do and any score against this dominant Defence is also a win. Have you ever seen a bright green Silverback Gorilla? Nah me neither.

Prediction:    Silverbacks 40, Gladiators 8

Sunday August 21st – Henry Turner Reserve, Footscray – 10:30am

  • Melton Wolves (Last Place, 1-7) vs Monash Barbarians (5th Place, 3-4)
  • Last Time:      Week 3 2016: Barbarians 10, Wolves 0

10-0 was the score in this one last time, all scored in the first quarter. The Wolves managed to score a huge TD against the Silverbacks last week, a feat most teams have struggled with (although the score line wasn’t flattering). Which team will the Barbarians bring to this battle? The team that almost knocked off Pakenham before the bye? Or the team that got thumped 50-8 against the Dragons last week? The Wolves see a few players returning from injury and work commitments. Melton believes they can win this one (they go into every game thinking they have a chance), but will find out for sure around 1pm on Sunday.

Prediction:    Barbarians 8, Wolves 6
