Saturday, September 10th – Craik Park – 6pm Kick Off

  • West Sydney Pirates vs Wollongong Mustangs
  • (Last Season WEST 60 – 18 WOL)

So it looks like I have to eat my words from last week and say that Saturday September 10th marks the first “official” day of games in GNSW. The first and only division 1 game at Craik Park this week sees the Pirates up against the Mustangs. The Pirates ran over the Mustangs last season and with the Mustangs losing CB/RB Mitch Kirk (NSW Wolfpack Representative) to the Rebels, I don’t think the score will change at all.

Choc’s Prediction: WST 54 – 7 WOL

Saturday, September 10th – The David Phillips Sports Complex – 1pm Kick Off

  • Newcastle Cobras vs Sutherland Seahawks
  • (Seahawks did not field a team in 2015)

An interesting clash. I actually don’t think I can pick an outright winner in this one since I haven’t seen the new Seahawks Division 1 team, nor have I seen what changes the Cobras have made to their team since the Hunter Gridiron League. I’m going to play it safe with this one.

Choc’s Prediction: NEW 10 – 14 SEA

Saturday, September 10th – The David Phillips Sports Complex – 6pm Kick Off

  • Nepean Ducks vs UNSW Raiders
  • (Last Season NEP 3 – 17 RAI)

The Ducks are coming off a surprising result against the Lions last week… alright granted the game never went ahead due to the rain, but they were able to snag one point against the Lions as their game was called a draw. This week they look to take on another university team in UNSW. This will no doubt be a tough game for the Ducks, with the Raiders recently making a few new additions to their team on both sides of the ball; with WR Rustum Todd, RB Christian Gaitau (both NSW Wolfpack Reps) and LB Marcos Delana (Australian Outback & NSW Wolfpack + Wolverines Rep) all joining the green machine this season.

Choc’s Prediction: NEP 7 – 42 RAI

Saturday, September 10th – Darling St Oval – 3:30pm Kick Off

  • Sydney University Lions vs UTS Gators
  • (Last Season SYD 41 – 0 UTS)

In this clash of local Universities, the Gators will try to regroup from losing to the Lions in both the 2015 regular season and playoffs. The Gators were able to bounce back from a mediocre regular season to book a spot in the playoffs, only to be beaten by the Sydney Uni juggernaut. However rumours have been circulating that the Lions are not what they once were, with their O Line and QB positions all seeing new faces. Time will tell, but my money is on Coach Ogborne and the Lions to come out on top in this one.

Choc’s Prediction: SYD 35 – 14 UTS

Saturday, September 10th – Darling St Oval – 6:30pm Kick Off

  • Northwestern Predators vs Northern Sydney Rebels
  • (Last Season: NWP 16 – 6 REB)

In what the Rebels like to call the local derby, the Predators will take on the Northern Sydney in the last game of Round 2. We were able to get a good look at the Rebels team last week in our scrimmage with UTS so this will be fun on all fronts. Last season the Rebels kept the score close but (call me biased) I don’t see this game ending the same. The Predators are hungry and itching to get back on the field so my tip is to back the boys in red and black.

Choc’s Prediction: NWP 35 – 7 REB

**Central Coast Sharks have the Bye this week

  1. I personally aim to put at least 5 sacks on the Rebel’s QB. Watch out for the big dog (me).
