Cameron Johnston didn’t get to unseat Donnie Jones as the Eagles punter for the 2017 season, but the Philadelphia Eagles are giving him another chance to win the job this summer.

The Eagles signed the former Ohio State and Ray Guy Award finalist to a reserve/futures deal last Wednesday along with 3 other players.

Johnson averaged 44.3 yards per punt in the 2017 preseason, a full yard higher than Jones…but the Eagles chose experience over the undrafted rookie from Geelong. Jones also had four punts inside the 20-yard line to Johnston’s zero.

Donnie Jones is no spring chicken at 37 years old and is due to make $1.875 million in 2018, parting ways with the veteran would save the Eagles some cash and cap space if they want to give Johnston the job next season.
