In late December the Gridiron Australia community turns its attention to South Australia and the Great Southern Bowl.
The 2016 season finale will see the top of the table and defending champions the Adelaide University Hogs take on the South City Chiefs who defeated the Spartans in last weeks semi final 20-12.

Adelaide University are in the final thanks to their top of the table finish but it was far from the dominating Hogs teams of the past few years. In the final two weeks of the season, the Hogs suffered back to back losses to UniSA Eagles 38-28 and to the Spartans Spartans 14 – 0. Adelaide University were missing players in these game but two losses is not the best way to prepare for a grand final when you also had last week off.
The South City Chiefs are in the final thanks to a thrilling win over the Spartans in last weeks semi final. With the semi-final game tied at 12-12 the Spartans were forced to punt, the Chiefs punt block unit came up huge by blocking the kick and returning it for a touchdown. Giving the Chiefs a 20-12 lead in the dying seconds of the game which they held onto. (Read a full wrap of the semi-final)
Last time these two teams got together back in November the Hogs took out a 27-18 victory over the Chiefs but earlier in the year in October the two teams played out a 28-28 tie at Brighton Rugby Club.
I am going to go out on limb here and say the moons are aligning for the Chiefs and they will take out a very close win in the Great Southern Bowl.
