The 2017 NFL Scouting Combine is on this weekend and there will be one Australian involved with the action. A total of 330 invitees will show off their skills to scouts of all 32 NFL teams, like in previous years the combine will take place at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana.
In 2016 there was 4 Australians at the NFL combine but in 2017 only Cameron Johnston of Ohio State will be flying the Australian flag.
Specialists will get underway on Wednesday the 1st of March (US Eastern Time) and will go through a range of activities:
- Medical Examinations
- Psychological Testing
- NFLPA Meeting
- PK/ST Workout
- Bench Press
- On-Field Workout
Cameron Johnston has been one of the outstanding punters in the nation during his time with Ohio State, and won numerous awards and was also a Ray Guy award finalist.
During most NFL drafts there is an average of 2 punters drafted, in 2017 Australian Lachlan Edwards was drafted in the final round by the New York Jets and Edwards went on to make the team. We would love to see a similar result for Johnson in 2017.
